Beware Of False
non Profit$$
RULE #1 -Be informed
I found that there are animal rescues that are misleading. They do not
provide
or do everything they claim or carefully word subject matter to make it
seem
like they are
directly hands -on involved. It is sneaky, they use someone else'
glory to collect donations, the donations are
used to advertise the animals'
plight(they call this -Education) , a portion goes to their staff and a
small
percentage may
be sent to the organization that is involved with the animals
in need. If you want your efforts to go to the animals
directly, make sure they
have animals! If you sent a sizable donation to an organization that
has kept
the same three
animals for years, but don't focus their spending habits on
the animals,
you would be mad.
RULE #2 -Follow the Money
Your $2,000 donation may not be spent on that little tiger, or those
little
raccoons you on accident orphaned and brought to them in good faith,
instructing that every penny
go to raising & releasing them- because
you felt directly responsible and wanted to make it right. There are
some centers that will actually euthanize them after you leave.
Some of the larger 501(c)organizations top managing members receive
$70,000- $100,000 a year salary, paid
by your donation.
I know, if they are dedicating their life for animals, they need a salry-
The problem is- their animal photos are purchased from the associated
press,
stock
footage, freelance photographers, or from an initial trip to the area
as
long as ten years previous.- They do not directly help the animals on a
continual basis. If there is claims of 200-400 rehabilitated animals
released,
they should have at least 100-200 photos of their staff releasing
the animals
to document
the release.
If they are not releasing the wild animals, what are they doing with
them?
Are they making the situation worse? Breeding them? Selling them to a
different place?
Squirreling them away to their own compound or secrete island in the
middle of
nowhere?in which there are no
photos of?
If an organization constantly boasts about their references being
the best
and push the fact that they are the only game in town, no one else is
good
enough -be very cautious
dealing with that organization.
I have dealt with one, I was disappointed - my image and respect of
them no
longer exists.
Be suspicious of an organization that talks down another organization.
The goal here
is to provide for animals, not knock out 'competition' for donations.
You are better
off
helping your local wildlife rehabilitator, they are the ones dealing
with the animals.
'Conservation' needs
a Legal definition!
I am not against hunting as a means to obtain food, I am against
no-limit kills and hunting
declining animal populations.
501(c) means different things to different people. I found a profitable
lumber company
operating under the premise of conservation. They are harvesting lumber
from Oregon
- to N.
California to sell overseas. Their 'Conservation' is cutting down trees
to prevent
forest fires. Displacing the marbled
murrette and spotted owl is Not benefiting conservation
and 'trees' provide oxygen for free, we are destroying our very own
means of sustainability.
Hunting Organizations that are501(c) lobbying for increased bag numbers
on endangered
species are a 501(c) for their political activity and operation, not
for their conservation.
Some
have added the word as a blanket statement for their own definitions.
Sometimes
they mean the fees from hunting licenses raises
money to take care of forest parks, [but as long as we
stay our distance, do not pollute their sanctuary, watch from a
distance(bird watching
makes and provides the most money) wild animals don't need us
that much, without
pollution their pure
environment is already
a Sustained Balance!
A humane organization should exist for local & international wild
animals, protects
local wildlife on privet property and wild life receiving medical care.
And I will always
feel that reserves that were
created as sanctuaries for wildlife, hunting & commercial
cattle grazing should not be allowed.
